He was born July 14, 1937, to Walter and Bernice (Davidson) Voigt in Burlington, N.D. Growing up in Smelterville, he attended school there and at Rose Lake and Kellogg. Lannie joined the Marine Corps on July 20, 1954, and served for five years, getting a hardship discharge on April 3, 1959, when his father died. During that time, he was awarded a National Defense Medal and a Marine Good Conduct medal. In Oct. 1959, Lannie enlisted in the Army and was discharged July 31, 1975, after serving for 16 years. He saw combat in Vietnam and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Campaign Medal, two o/s bars, RVN Cross of Gallantry, RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and two good conduct medals. In 1975, he retired from the military and returned to North Idaho, settling in Coeur d'Alene with his two children. Lannie worked for the Idaho Panhandle National Forests from 1980 to 1994 as warehouseman, receiving many awards and recognitions for his contribution to the Forest Service. It was at the Forest Service that Lannie met his wife Barbara, who also worked there at that time. They were married on July 28, 1984, and both retired from the Forest Service on April 30, 1994. In 1999, Lannie and Barbara moved from Post Falls to Mesa, Ariz., where he wouldn't have to shovel snow anymore. Lannie leaves to mourn his wife Barbara; son Curtis Voigt; daughter Tracy Marquez; grandsons Curtis Voigt Jr. and Tristan Marquez; granddaughter Jamie Marquez; great-grandchildren Zoie Marquez, Cameron Voigt and Abela Voigt; step- grandchildren Chase Calhoun, Tiffany Thompson, Amanda Kegley, Gabriel Fritzsche, Devan Fritzsche and Lettia Fritzsche; sisters Darlene (Eldon) Haux, Bonnie (Don) Smith, Elizabeth (George) Cook; brother LeRoy (Linda) Voigt. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James. Graveside memorial service will be 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
