She was born Dec. 8, 1913, in Clarkston, Wash., to Roy and Elsie Swain. She married Arthur A. McArthur July 20, 1940, in Libby, Mont. Sarah moved to Spokane from Newport, Wash., and to the Coeur d'Alene area in 1980. She spent the last four years at Heritage Place in Coeur d'Alene. Sarah was a baker and cook for the Spokane School District #81. She retired in 1969. She was also the former manager of Metropolitan and Grants department stores. She was a member of Valley Church of Christ in Spokane. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Plumber's Union local 44. She enjoyed reading and sewing and loved to cook. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Virgil and Dede McArthur of Post Falls; and Hershel Lew and Shirley McArthur of Spokane; daughter and son-in- law Glenda and Dale H. Johnson of Post Falls; brother Jack Swain and sisters Faye Strah of Mead, Wash., and Patricia Ricard of Priest River; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 1983; brothers Orville and Victor Swain; sister Louise Corning and special love William Wayman in August 2005. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene. A reception will follow the service. Private burial will be Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Visitation hours will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene.
