Schultz Jr., 77, died Dec. 16, 2005, at his home in Post Falls, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was born June 20, 1928, in Manhattan, to Joseph F. and Emily M. (Phillips) Schultz. On Feb. 26, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Alice Marie Pinkham, in Flushing, N.Y. He honorably served in the Army during the Korean War. Joseph moved in 2000 from Brentwood, N.Y., to Post Falls, where he lived directly across the street from his oldest son and daughter-in-law, John and Tina-Marie Schultz. Joseph excelled at sports, having pitched for the New York Giants Baseball organization in the late 1940s. He ran his own business for many years with Fuller Brush, and then joined the Post Office as a letter carrier in Bay Shore, N.Y., retiring in 1990. Joseph also excelled at horseshoe pitching and bowling, his two great passions. He was New York State Horseshoe Champion in 1978, placed sixth in the world, and in 1979, was inducted into the NY Horseshoe Pitching Association Hall of Fame. He has won far too many other tournaments to list. In bowling, he had won the Grand Masters honors, bowled on several leagues and averaged about 214. He was a devoted and beloved husband and father. A member of the Commack Methodist Church in Long Island, N.Y., for many years, Joseph was very active on parish committees. After moving to Idaho, he became an active member of United Methodist Church in Rathdrum. Joseph is survived by his wife Alice of Post Falls; son and daughter-in-law, John and Tina-Marie Schultz, Post Falls, son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Cathy Schultz, Granite City, Ill.; sister and brother-in-law, Anne and George Milo, Plantation, Fla. He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah, Joseph and Raymond. He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda in 1985. Funeral service will be 6 p.m. Dec. 29 at English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls, who is in charge of arrangements.. The family will receive visitors at 5 p.m., prior to the service. A dinner reception will follow the service at the family home. Burial will be 10 a.m. Dec. 30 at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Memorials can be sent to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N.
