Born Oct. 20, 1938, in Salt Lake City to Bessie Loretta (Frank), of Frankburg, Alberta, Canada, and Raymond Oscar Burgess, of Troy, Dd moved to the Portland area at a very young age and spent most of her childhood years there. She graduated from Pilot Rock High School in 1956. While attending Brigham Young University, Dd met Robert Leroy Thompson and married him on May 27, 1960, in Salt Lake City. She graduated from BYU in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, with emphasis in human development and family relations. Dd began her teaching career in Ogden, Utah, and shortly thereafter, moved to Skamania, Wash., where she continued teaching. After building a home in Stevenson, Wash., Dd and Robert lived there for 20 years, while she taught school, worked for the Post Office, and spent many years as a mother at home raising five children. Dd loved keeping journals, genealogy, and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. But above all, she loved her family. A member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many leadership positions throughout her life. Shortly after her last child graduated from high school in Stevenson, Dd and Robert moved to and retired in beautiful Coeur d'Alene. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Robert Leroy Thompson of Coeur d'Alene; sons Kory Eli Thompson, Coeur d'Alene, and David Jeremy Thompson, Portland; daughters Jana Maria Bennett, Spokane, Linda Joy McLeish, Post Falls, and Elaina Jill Vander Ploeg, Ferndale, Wash. Dd's parents predeceased her. Viewing will start at noon Oct. 15 until the 1 p.m. funeral service at First Ward at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, Coeur d'Alene. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, is handling all arrangements. Dd will be buried in the Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
