OBITUARY: Fannie Douglass (Smith) Pangburn, 1883-1918, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-February 6, 1918] Obituary - Mrs. S. A. Pangburn Fannie Douglass Pangburn died at Northwood, February 4, 1918, at the age of 34 years. She was the only daughter of Rollin H. Douglass and Sarah R. Smith. She was born at Stillwater, Minn. Aug. 26, 1883. Her mother, a sister of G. W. and James A. Smith, died while Fannie was still in infancy. Soon after her death, Mr. Douglass and his family of three small children moved to Osage. Here Fannie spent all of her childhood and young girlhood, making hosts of friends by her sweet ways and kindly disposition. Many hearts were saddened when the news of her death came Monday morning. About twelve years ago the family moved to Northwood and on October 22, 1908, Fannie was united in marriage to Dr. S. A. Pangburn, a young dentist of that place. To them were born two children; Phyllis, who is now 7 years of age and Douglass, who is 5. For about a year Fannie has been in poor health and last December she went to the Mason City sanitarium for examination and treatment. The doctors there pronounced her disease diabetes and prescribed a strict diet. She was in Osage two weeks ago to attend the funeral of her uncle Jas. A. Smith, and visit at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Scofield. At that time she was very cheerful and optomistic, feeling so much better that she was sure she was on the road to recovery. But a week ago she took a turn for the worse and passed away early Monday morning. She leaves a husband, two children, father, step-mother, and two brothers besides many relatives and a host of friends both in Northwood and Osage. Fannie's place can never be filled. Her bright, pleasant ways, her warm friendship and her sincerity have made their way into many hearts. The bereaved husband, the loving father and two small children have the sympathy of all who knew Fannie. Her heart was in her home, but it also extended outside to every friend and to every good cause, and she will be missed by the whole community. The funeral services were held from the home at Northwood Wednesday, February 6, at 2:30 o'clock. Stanley R. Smith, Richard J. Smith, Merrill Smith and Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Scofield attended the services. Submitted to IaGenWeb by Marilyn O'Connor, Aug. 2005 Copyright 2005 - M. O'Connor Note: Fannie might properly be spelled Fanny
