OBITUARY: Ethel Elizabeth (Stehn) Tesch, 1910-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; Jan. 25, 1997] Ethel Tesch CARPENTER, IOWA--Ethel Tesch, 86, of Carpenter, Iowa, died Thursday, January 23, 1997, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan 27, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township, with Pastor Rose Marie Lewis and Pastor Joe Matt officiating. Burial will be in Rock Township Cemetery. The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements. Ethel Elizabeth Stehn was born Oct. 5, 1910, in Barton Township, Worth County, Iowa, daughter of Adolph and Mabel Smith Stehn. She was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. After graduating from Carpenter High School, Ethel continued on to Cedar Falls where she received her teaching certification. She taught at Rock #6 in Mitchell County until her marriage. On Sept. 5, 1935, she was united in marriage with Alfred Tesch at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They farmed northeast of Grafton. Following her husband's death, Ethel remained on the farm until 1979, when she moved to Carpenter. Ethel is survived by one son, Daryl Tesch and his wife, Iola, of Mason City; two daughters, Marilyn Katcavage and her husband, George, of South St. Paul, Minnesota, and Marlene Sower and her husband, Bill, of Eagan, Minn.; five granddaughters, Dawn Person, Teresa Roth, Chanda and Jamie Katcavage and Kalli Sower; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Delmar Stehn of Carpenter; and one sister, Della Matt and her husband, Joe, of Austin, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; parents, Adolph and Mabel Stehn; and two brothers, Arthur and Russell Stehn. Copyright 2004, K.L. Kittleson
