OBITUARY: Mary Victoria (Kordos) Vulk, 1915-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Adapted from Mitchell County Press-News online - Posted Sept. 29, 2004] Mary Victoria Vulk A Scripture Memorial Service for Mary Victoria Vulk, age 89, of Osage, Iowa, was held on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Inurnment was in the Osage City Cemetery. Her body was cremated per her request. Mary died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage, after a short illness due to cancer. Mary was born March 21, 1915, in Benwood, West Virginia, the oldest of three daughters born to Joseph and Victoria (Laga) Kordos. The family moved to Mitchell when Mary was two. She grew up in the Mitchell and Osage area, graduating from Mitchell High School. After graduating, she moved to Chicago and worked in the Presbyterian Hospital as an aide. Mary married her school sweetheart, Joe Vulk, from Osage, while in Chicago. Together they moved back to the Osage area in 1949. Mary worked many years for the Ben Donsker family, the Albert Morse family, and the Dr. Merril Eiel family as a housekeeper and as a great friend to Mrs. Donsker, Mrs. Eiel, and Mrs. Morse. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph "Joe" Vulk, Sr. in 2002 and a brother-in-law Jerry Pajer. She is survived by two children, Darlene Gruis and her husband John of Rockford and Joseph Vulk, Jr. and his wife Beverly of Osage; four grandchildren, Scott Gruis and his wife Cheryl of Rockford, Julie Salisbury and her husband Doug of Nora Springs, Mike Vulk and his fiance Tammy Colglazier of Osage and Ruth Krones and her husband Gary of Osage; ninegreat-grandchildren, Bryce Rosel, Spenser Gruis, Nicholas, Kaycee, and Sawyer Salisbury, Teri Birdsall, Kaitlyn and Mackenzie Krones, and Cooper Vulk; two sisters, Rose Pajer of Mitchell and Katherine Chrencik of Osage; nephews Jerry and Ronald Pajer of Georgia, Joe Chrencik of Travis City, Mich. and a niece Judy Morgan of Osage.
