OBITUARY: Owana M. (Benson) Minor, 1908-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [From Mitchell County-Press-News online (Edited); Posted May 12, 2004] Owana M. Minor Funeral services for Owana Margaret Minor, age 95, of Riceville, Iowa, were held Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. The Reverend Gale Richards and Reverend Gary Gilbert will officiate. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville. Owana passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at the Riceville Community Rest Home. Owana Minor was born December 26, 1908 in Riceville, Iowa, to James W. and Olive Coyer Benson. Ten days after her birth and the passing of her mother, Owana was raised by Charles and Ada Root and their daughters Fannie and Velma, until she was 16 years old. Owana graduated from Riceville High School in 1926. On November 5, 1927, Owana was united in marriage to Harry D. Minor in Riceville. She was an active member of the Riceville and David communities. Owana was a homemaker and helped her husband in farming. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. Her survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lenth and her husband Dale of Riceville, Iowa, and Margaret Scott of Des Moines, Iowa, nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren, a half sister, Bernice Wright of Santa Ana, California, and a special niece Anita Minnis of Riceville.
