OBITUARY: George Lea Plummer, 1909-1982, Mitchell County, Iowa [St. Ansgar Enterprise 11 FEB 1982] Memorial Services Held Saturday For George L. Plummer Memorial services were held Saturday morning, February 6 for George L. Plummer, 72, who passed away at his home here Tuesday, February 2. The services were held at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating. Burial was in Newburg Township cemetery near Carpenter. George Lea Plummer was born October 9, 1909 in Lime Springs, Iowa, the son of Dr. Herbert W. Plummer and Anna Postle Plummer. He was graduated from Lime Springs high school and attended the College of Engineering at Iowa State University, Ames. He was married to Laura Zwerneman of Lyle, Minn. June 21, 1935. George entered the U.S. Army in February, 1943, and served two and a half years, six months of which were in the Rhineland Campaign. He was honorably discharged in December, 1945. Following a move to St. Ansgar in 1950, George found work at the Globe Gazette in Mason City where he was employed as a contract hauler until his retirement in 1966. He also had been employed for several years at the Roxy Theatre and the Bel-Air Drive-In as a projectionist. George was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and infant son. He is survived by his wife, Laura; a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Laurel) Kimber, and one granddaughter, Sarah Kimber, in addition to his many friends.
