OBITUARY: James Claire Johnson, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Nov. 7, 2001] James Claire Johnson A memorial service for James Claire Johnson, age 85, of Osage, was held Monday, Nov. 5, 2001 at the United Methodist Church, Osage, IA with Rev. Karen Nichols Dungan officiating. A private burial was in the Osage Cemetery. Gathering of friends and family was at the Johnson residence on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001. Claire died October 31, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements. He was born Aug. 18, 1916 to Carl and Agnes (Palmer) Johnson on a farm in Union Township, Mitchell County, IA. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1936. Claire married Edith May Farmer on Nov. 19, 1944 at the Congregational Church, Osage, IA. He was a grain and livestock farmer in Union Township until retiring to Osage in 1973. He was a member of the Mitchell County Farm Bureau from 1945 until his retirement. He enjoyed celebrating his Norwegian heritage as a member of Sons of Norway. He was a longtime member of Union Presbyterian Church and subsequently a member of the United Methodist Churches in St. Ansgar and Osage, IA. He enjoyed fishing and watching baseball and football games. His children and grandchildren were the center of his life. For the past twelve years Claire and May have spent the winter in Mesa, AZ. Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Merle and Vanus; a niece Sherri Prince. Those that survive him include his wife, May of 57 years; three daughters, Pamela and husband, Herbert Haack of Rochester, MN, Mary Lynn Johnson of Spokane, WA, Lu Johnson of Apple Valley, MN; a son, Lee and wife, Janelle Johnson of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Natalie Haack of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Leah Haack of Rochester, MN, Renee, Adam and Todd Johnson of Overland Park, KS; sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Osage; two nieces, Carolyn Srodes of Sarasota, FL, Karen and Alan Damjanovic of Orchard, IA and a nephew, Mark Johnson of Osage.
