Clarke County, Iowa Newspaper
Remington F. Siefkas,son of Frank and Etta Siefkas, died in Des Moines Friday, 
November 18, 1949 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 16 days. Remington was 
born on December 2, 1863 near Quincy, Illinois. He moved to Sweethome, 
Missouri with his parents and after a few years moved to Lacelle where he 
resided the rest of his life. On March 13, 1889 he was united in marriage to 
Johannah Henrichs, who passed away March 26, 1933. To this union was born four 
children: Minnie and Anna at home, Henry, and Mrs. Nellie Maffett. Besides the 
children he leaves four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two 
brothers, William and John Siefkas of Murray, and many other relatives. He was 
preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, Albert, Jake, and 
Bert, and one granddaughter, Myrna Siefkas. Mr. Siefkas was one of the 
pioneering citizens of this community residing on his farm 73 years coming 
here when 9 years old. He often recalled the days of his childhood, following 
the plow his father used to break the prairie soil.   Services were held from 
the Webster Funeral home in Osceola Sunday, November 20, with Rev. Lloyd Latta 
of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Murray cemetery.
