H. Lee Dead Mr. A. H. Lee, one of Newton's oldest and best known citizens died very suddenly last Tuesday morning at the home of Dr. J. W. Nelms, in Atlanta. He rose at the regular hour in the morning and dressed and started down the steps when he fell backward dead. Mr. Lee was born and raised in Newton County and his death Tuesday ends a useful life at the age of 77 years. He is survived by five children, Mr. N. C. Lee, of Covington, Mrs. Lillie Nelms, of Atlanta; Mrs. Lou Stewart, of Macon, Miss Lizzie Lee, of Atlanta, and Mr. Arthur Lee, of Alabama. Major Lee was a prominent confederate soldier and organized the first company from Covington, "The Young Guards" in the early part of the sixties. He served as Captain for one year and was promoted to Major. He had a number of friends in this county who hear of his death with regret.
