James Wilson Thomas entered the military during the Civil War. He served in 
the Calvery under B.N. Phillips, Georgia Legion. He was 16 years old at the 
time he entered. He was shot in the knee at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and held 
prisoner for 9 months. He came to Texas in approximately 1879, settling in 
Camp County, Texas until his death on September 19, 1941 at the age of 98.
