That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Marion, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida continuously since the X day of January, 1902. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Macon, under the name of Robert H. Baskin, on the x day of May, 1862, in Company Gray’s (H), Regiment 8th Cavalry of the State of Georgia in the service of the (Here state whether the service claimed was in the Confederate States Army or in the service of a State.) Confederate States and who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Atlanta, in the State of Georgia, on the x day of May, 1865, on account of the ending of the war. Baskin who is an applicant for a pension under the laws of Florida, claims to to (sic) have been a member of Company “H” – 8th Ga. Regiment Cavalry, Confederate States Army, and to have been discharged at Atlanta Ga. Please furnish me with the record of this soldier. Yours very truly, W. V. Knott Comptroller Page 011 Adjutant General’s Office 2115106 War Department Jan 12 1914 War Department, The Adjutant General’s Office, Washington, Jan. 15, 1914. 2115106 Respectfully returned to the Comptroller, State of Florida, Tallahassee. The name Robert H. Baskin has not been found on such rolls as are on file in this office of Co. H, 8th Ga. Cav., C.S.A. The records show, however, that one Robert H. Baskin, pvt., and 2d lieut., Co. M, 62d Ga. Cav., C.S.A., which organization subsequently became a part of the 8th Ga. Cav., C.S.A., enlisted May 31, 1862, at Griffin. On the roll for Sept. and Oct., 1862, last roll on which his name appears, he was reported present. Other records show that this soldier resigned as lieut., Co. M. 62d Ga. Cav., C.S.A., April 17, 1863, and that his resignation was forwarded from Granville, N. C., to the Confederate States Secretary of War, date not shown, with an indorsement by General Longstreet stating that Lieut. Baskin was to be disposed of under paragraph 2 of G. O. No. 24, 1863 (Conscript Act), which orders required brigade commanders to at once enroll all officers of the Army whose resignations had been accepted.
