Territory of
Florida            Know all men by these presents that I Barthelow 
Gainy, has this day executed to Simon Dell , this day my Promissory 
Note for One hundred & Twenty five Dollars for Value Rec'd payable on 
the first day of January next bearing even date with this Mortgage for 
the true payment of the above named note I do mortgage unto Simon Dell 
-  A certain Negro man by the name Jim aged about twenty one.  The 
Condition of the above Obligation is such that Gainy shall well and 
truly pay to the above named Simon Dell the above Note for One hundred 
& twenty five Dollars then the above Obligation to be Null & void  Else 
to stand in full form   The said Dell shall be Authorized to take the 
said Negro And Expose to Public sale And pay him self And all expenses 
And all Surplus money or monies to be paid Over to said Gainey or to 
his *** or agent.
      In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this second day 
of June 1835

of the Peace in said County one of the subscribing witnesses who made 
oath that he subscribed as a witness the within instrument and that he 
saw Barthelemew Gainy subscribe the same dated this 28th Nov. 1835
