B. Baird and son Jerome are visiting Mrs. Baird's parents near Piedmont. __ Monday night, in a rear end collision near Edwardsville, Engineer George Garrett was seriously injured. He was brought to Heflin and his wounds were dressed by Dr. J.L. Simpson. He is doing as well as could be expected and his friends hope for a speedy and complete recovery. Several cars were wrecked and two other persons slightly hurt, Chas. Newton, fireman and Flagman Collins. ___ LEGAL NOTICE - - Order of Publication State of Alabama, Cleburne County Court in Equity E.J. Patterson vs. Emma Patterson In this cause it is made to appear to the clerk by the affidavit of W.B. Merrill one of the plaintiff's solicitors, that the defendant Emma Patterson is a non-resident of the state of Alabama and that she resides in the state of Georgia and that her particular place of residence is unknown. And further that in the belief of the affiant, the defendant is over the age of 21 years. It is therefore ordered that publication be made in the New Era, a newspaper published in the County of Cleburne, for four consecutive weeks, requiring the said Emma Patterson, defendenat above named, to plead, answer or demur to the bill of complaint in this cause by the 20th day of December 1899 or in thirty days thereafter, or a decree pro confesso may be taken against her. Done at office in Edwardsville this 18th day of November 1899. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, December 16, 1899 M. D. ROBISON THROWN FROM A CART AND SERIOUSLY INJURED News reach Heflin last night that Mr. M.D. Robison of this city had been thrown from a cart in Randolph County and seriously and perhaps fatally injured. Mr. Robison who clerks for W.G. Milligan, had gone to Randolph County on a collecting tour. When about 20 miles from Heflin he decided to let his horse rest, he hitched a mule to the cart to drive and he and the owner of the mule, Mr. Key, started to drive to a neighbors; they had gone only a short distance when the mule ran away overturning the cart, throwing both Mr. Robison and Mr. Key violently to the ground, Mr. Robison's head striking a sharp stone, crushing his skull. Mr. Key was only slightly injured.
