Married Margaret Ann Lowery born 1795 died before 1870 buried Black’s Chapel Clay County Enlisted 6 October 1814 as a private in Captain Jehu Stephen's Company, Major Chiles's Battalion of Mounted Gunmen, East Tennessee Volunteers (same battalion in which Moses Defrees served). He enlisted from Blount county, Tennesse, about two weeks after his uncle Moses, and they both served until 1 May 1815, when the war ended. Burial: Concord Baptist Church, Clay Co., AL. [He was a soldier in the Seminole Indian War and a pioneer of the Fishhead Valley (Randolph County, Al.). Moved from Virginia to Columbia County, S.C., where he married Nancy Elizabeth Scruggs. Moved from South Carolina to Musckogee County, Ga. around 1830. He sold his 404 acre farm in Georgia in 1836 relocating to Randolph County, Alabama in 1837. He apparently became offended with his family before leaving Georgia, as he never mentioned them after he moved. According to records of Judge Alpheus A. Hurst, William served as a Private in Capt. Joshua Pearce's Company, 1st Infantry Regiment, Georgia Militia(Col. H.V. Milton). He was given land warrant # 87148 for 160 acres according the act of 1855, the warrant was issued May 20,1859. But, William never got the land that he was promised.
