A Father in Israel Gone.
	Gilbert C. Craig died on Saturday morning last, at the residence of his 
son-in-law, Mr. Steve Ferguson, on East Ladiga street, in the 85th year of his 
age.
	Mr. Craig was born in Knox county, Tennessee, on the 28th of February 
1809, and removed to Alabama in 1835, first settling in Cherokee county, near 
Spring Garden.  He came to Piedmont in 1850, and thereafter continuously 
resided here.
	Mr. Craig had been for many years a devoted member of the Presbyterian 
church.  He was a charter member of Carmel church, one of the oldest 
Presbyterian churches in this part of the state.  For more than half a century 
he had worshipped God at Presbyterian altars and held fast to the Presbyterian 
faith.
	He was buried on Sunday last at Carmel church, were repose the remains 
of many of the friends of his young manhood, of many of the associates of his 
middle age, of many who were near and dear to him in life, and there with them 
he will await the summons on resurrection morn to everlasting life.  The 
funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Liston, pastor of the Presbyterian 
church in Piedmont.
	Mr. Craig was an honest man.  He was a good neighbor and friend.  He 
was an affectionate husband and a kind father.  He failed in no duty of 
citizenship.  He walked uprightly before men; and all men respected and 
esteemed him.  Full of years, he died in the assurance of the faith in which he 
lived; and the loved ones he left behind do not mourn as those without hope.
