Know all you men by these presents that I Charles Carter of the County and State aforesaid considering the uncertainty of this life and being of sound mind and memory do make, declare and publish this my last will and Testament. First I give and bequeath to my wife Sarah the use improvements of my dwelling house lands and their appurtenances situated in the county and state aforesaid to have and to hold the same during her natural life. Second I give and bequeath to my wife Sarah all of my real and personal property to have and to hold the use and benefit of the same during her natural life. Third I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Jane Session, formerly Mary Jane Wood, the tract of land lying on Six Mile Creek, in the County and State aforesaid containing about one hundred and eighty acres of land and known as the place where Robert Defir (?) now lives. Fourth I give and bequeath to my said daughter Mary Jane two Negro boys, to- wit, Sephus and Ben which she now has in her possession. Fifth I give and bequeath to my grandchildren William C. Wood, Sarah L. Wood, Nancy A. Wood, and Marietta C. Wood, heirs of David L. Wood deceased, all of my personal and real estate to have the same after the death of my wife Sarah. Sixth I will and bequeath that after the decease of my wife Sarah my said grandchildren shall be possessed of all my real personal property of whatever character it may consist in to be divided equally amongst the four reserving to William C. Wood the privilege of having and holding the mills, both saw and grist mills and the tract of land on which they are situated. Seventh I will and bequeath that if either one of my grandchildren should die before receiving their proportionate share of my said estate that it shall be equally divided amongst the surviving grandchildren aforesaid (to wit) William C. Wood, Sarah L. Wood, Nancy A. Wood and Marietta C. Wood. Eighth I do nominate and appoint my grandson William C. Wood to be the executor of this my last will and Testament in testimony whereof I have to this my last will and Testament subscribed my name and affixed my seal this the Seventeenth of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Sixty Three, Charles Carter (Seal) Signed in Presence of P.
