The Daily Confederation [AL], Jul 12, 1859 1859
Suicide—We learn that John S. Gillespie, of Bibb county, in this State, 
committed suicide at the house of Mr. Turner Harper, of this county, on 
yesterday morning. He was on his way to his Mississippi plantation, and had 
upwards of five hundred dollars on his person. The Coroner's Jury returned a 
verdict of "died by his own hands." He was found in bed yesterday morning 
weltering in his blood, having shot himself through the temples with a pistol. 
No cause is assigned for the rash act. He was a temperate, industrious 
citizen, and leaves a wife and two children to mourn his untimely loss.—Marion
